A lady brought her almost brand new truck to the dealer on Friday complaining of some pretty bizarre issues. She explained that as she would drive down the road: the instrument cluster, radio control, front power windows, and some other things would stop functioning. Hooking up the scan tool revealed a bunch of communication codes. Having some past experience with these problems, another tech decided to peek under the dash... Can you guess what we found?..
In July 2014, I decided it was time to fix up my old truck. It wasn't really an old truck to me - I actually daily drove this thing around. I found this jewel sitting out back behind the dealer I work for.It wasn't much to look at, but had the mighty old and strong 7.3L with a 6 speed manual transmission attached to it. It was love at first sight. A few years later and here we are. I'll give you the whole story... but be warned there are plenty of pictures included!..
The Mac Tools guy stopped by today. Oh do I love when he stops by. My bank account always takes a hit though. Today, he had an awesome deal on a 3/8 drive impact wrench gun. Model number AWP280Q...
I love organized tools. But do you also wish your tools were mobile? The Lock-A-Socket Tray by Mechanic Time Saver is one of the best socket organizers I have come across. It's got 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 socket holders that can re-arrange in any combination you want. I believe this is the best setup for me...
Sometimes life really sucks if you own a 6.0L Powerstroke. Don't get me wrong, I love working on them. Let's be real here: there are some out there that nickle and dime you to death. Some owners out there just get the lemons and those lemons require fixing often. The Ford 6.0L Powerstroke engine has many common problems, but that is not what I am here writing about today. Today is about catastrophic failures and/or mistakes...
Came across a few of these suckers... unidentified oil leak coming from the front cover of a 6.7L PowerStroke in a 2013. Covers front of oil pan with wet oil. Hard to pinpoint the location. Using florescent oil dyes, we made an assumption that it could be the front main seal. We started a tear down to determine the root cause and devise an approach to repair it...
The topic of deleting someone's EGR system has be brought up to me several times. Especially with the 6.0L diesel crowd. I thought I would talk a little about what some of the advantages and disadvantages of deleting the EGR coolers on the 6.0L Powerstroke, the 6.4L Powerstroke, and the 6.7L Powerstroke...

Wondering if you should get a Superchips programmer for your 7.3L Powerstroke? I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a Superchips 1842 Flashpaq Tuner to review for your pleasure. Lets just say: Yes, I know I am about 10 years behind the curve of these Superchips programmers. Everyone speaks very highly of this programmer, so I decided to give it a try and see if it would help my lackluster 7.3L Powerstroke...
So, today was pretty cool. We had a guy bring in his 2005 F350 6.0L diesel for a few issues. The whole story, which we weren't originally informed of, was that less than a week ago he had a brand new Garrett turbo installed. This morning he was driving it an all of a sudden he hears a loud noise in which he describes as a "piston trying to get out". After the noise, he experiences a lack of power and white smoke. He brings this truck in and is complaining of it smoking like a freight train, rough cold start idle, and lack of power...
